How to Wake Up On Time for College

Waking up early is, perhaps, the most dreaded thing about college. Waking up on time is the ideal way to start off a successful day. Yet, when that alarm rings, your resolve to leave the warmth of your blanket is at its nadir. So, how to wake up on time for college?

Here are a few tips that will help you overcome your complaining attitude that is saying, "I don't want to wake up and go to class!"

Tips on How to Wake Up On Time for College

Change your attitude – Stop telling yourself and others that you are not a morning person. You have to change this attitude and begin to tell yourself that morning is a beautiful time to be awake in and watch the sun rise in all its glory. Waking up early is one of the most important aspects of life adopted by all successful people. Waking up early makes you a more productive person.

Ensure you get a good night's sleep – Your body is a machine and it needs daily rest. If you do not get your 6-7 hours of restful sleep during the night, you will not be able to wake up in the morning on time. Avoid the following to get a restful night's sleep as they deter your sleeping pattern:

  • Do not drink tea or coffee just before bedtime

  • Avoid fatty, greasy foods for dinner;

  • Avoid electronic just before falling asleep;

Instead, just before sleeping, engage in restful activities like reading an old-fashioned paper book (not from the eBook reader which could have the same effect as any electronic device) or listening to some good music or chatting with your roommates or doing some mental exercises like recalling what you did in class, etc.

These activities will help you fall into deep sleep faster and for longer. This will ensure that you are not drained out due to lack of sleep when the alarm rings in the morning.

Set your alarm clock by one minute earlier each day – This is especially great for people who keep hitting the snooze button every time the alarm rings; it means your body needs more time to adjust from its sleeping attitude.

So, if your alarm is kept at 6:00 AM today, then for tomorrow, keep it at 5.59 AM, for the day after tomorrow, keep it for 5.58 AM and so forth. Each time, you are pushing your body and mind a wee bit out of their comfort zone. With time and patience, this tip will reward you and sooner than later, your default alarm time will be 5.00 AM

Fix up to do group study with other students who are early risers – In this group study, make sure you take on the mantle of teaching something you are good at to the others. This will make you accountable which, in turn, will push you to get up early as you do not want to let your friends feel let down. Moreover, the thought of having something exciting to do when you get up can also be a great motivator to fight off sleepiness.

Final Notes

Waking up early in the morning may be difficult initially; but, once you have got attuned to it, you will find amazing joys being with yourself each morning. You are most productive in the morning and you will be able to accomplish much more during the day than before.
